Thanks to Sesom over on the TTW site for the fix. It can be entered by hand I just know I'll forget, and don't want to have to look it up every time. This is just a text file with the single line: player.removefromfaction 1d3fe
Then pull up the console in game and type (without the quotes): " bat NCRNice" TO USE: Extract into your Fallout New Vegas folder ( NOT the data folder). This file removes you from that faction, and that's it.
That's because of a little snafu regarding factions-Broken Steel adds you to the DC BoS faction, which is what makes certain NCR members go all trigger happy on you. Sometimes when you get to the Mojave, certain NCR folks are immediately hostile. NOTE: This mod was only for older versions of TTW2.x, and is no longer needed.
